Electricity Lesson #6: Electric Word List



  • Atom: a tiny bit of matter; everything is made of atoms

  • Charge: is the gain or loss of electrons; is what makes something electrical

  • Circuit: the path electricity takes

  • Current: a stream of moving electrons; this is electricity

  • Electron: the part of an atom that orbits the nucleus; has a minus charge

  • Fuse: breaks electricity's path if necessary; keeps too much electricity from going through a house's wires

  • Generator: makes electricity at a power plant

  • Electricity: the energy produced by the flow of electrons through wire

  • Neutron: one of the parts of an atom's nucleus; has no charge

  • Nucleus: the center of an atom; consists of protons and neutrons

  • Proton: one of the parts of an atom's nucleus; has a plus charge

  • Volt: the unit measuring electricity's force
