Electricity Lesson #6: Electric Word List
Atom: a tiny bit of matter; everything is made of atoms
Charge: is the gain or loss of electrons; is what makes something electrical
Circuit: the path electricity takes
Current: a stream of moving electrons; this is electricity
Electron: the part of an atom that orbits the nucleus; has a minus charge
Fuse: breaks electricity's path if necessary; keeps too much electricity from going through a house's wires
Generator: makes electricity at a power plant
Electricity: the energy produced by the flow of electrons through wire
Neutron: one of the parts of an atom's nucleus; has no charge
Nucleus: the center of an atom; consists of protons and neutrons
Proton: one of the parts of an atom's nucleus; has a plus charge
Volt: the unit measuring electricity's force
