The Writing Workshop is expected to run throughout the school year. The student is to work at his or her own level, on the individually selected piece, for approximately one month. The published piece must be completed for the last Friday of each month. Since December and March have fewer school days, the students will revise a previously published piece and resubmit that piece for evaluation, much like an author might resubmit to the editor before a book goes to market. The student is intended to view him/herself as a n author, during the writing workshop.
If a student publishes a piece before the end of the month, he/she may begin a new piece. It is also expected that students might change choices and that more than ten pieces might be started or may even reach steps two or three, although only ten will be collected over the year.
